My very recently purchased 17" Apple LCD disply went completely black today with no warning. It then came back to normal and then went black again, then back to normal.
My immediate reaction was to save what I was doing and shut down the cube to allow it to cool. My machines current spec can be seen in my sig and I thought at first that is was a result of the cube or graphics card overheating. Demon has suggested that if the LCD power light stays on it might be the backlight failing. In the instance I was to concerned about the cube to check if the light was on or not so I can't say either way, but if and when this happens again I would like to be prepared with as much info as possible so any ideas or information would be a great help. I am using a 450MHz cube with 1.5GB RAM, seagate cuda 7200.7 HDD, and a geforce 3 running 10.2.1. I have no extra cooling in the cube and had been using it for most of the day when the screen went blank. There was no audio warning of any kind (cube speakers attached to display) and no sound from the cube. When I took the cube out of its case it was hot but nothing was loose or smouldering or anything like that. I am writing this using the cube so I can't think any damage has been done. Also there are no artifacts on the screen and I have never seen any before this happened. From what Demon tells me it could well be (and probably is) the backlight but I just thought I would post here to see what everyone else thought.
